DEAL: Get $100 iTunes Card with Purchase of Mac/iPad/iPhone

Apple has launched its annual Back to School promotion offering qualified educational purchasers iTunes Store/App Store/iBookstore gift cards of up to $100 with the purchase of a new Mac, iPad, and for the first time, iPhone. The program begins today and runs through September 6. Though you don’t require your own device for GDMA, especially with our brand new iMac labs, if you are in the market now is a great time to purchase.

DEALS: Discount Apple/Adobe Stuff Across the Street

If you didn’t know, the good people at DMAC have moved their business into Lansdowne Centre, making the “ethical and friendly Mac service centre” closer than ever for Kwantlen students and staff. They wanted to pass on these discounts on Adobe software for students, as well as the trade-in program they have for your used Macs.

Here is a list of Adobe Student and Teacher Edition software that we carry.  You can choose from Mac or Windows version.  They are the same price.  Most of them are special-ordered items, but it usually takes 1-2 days to bring it in to our store.

Student and Teacher Edition (Mac or Windows):

  • Adobe Creative Suite 5 Design Premium — $449
  • Adobe Creative Suite 5 Web Premium — $449
  • Adobe Creative Suite 5 Production Premium — $449
  • Adobe Creative Suite 5 Master Collection — $899
  • Adobe Creative Suite 5 Design Standard — $299
  • Adobe Photoshop Extended CS5 — $199
  • Adobe Dreamweaver CS5 — $159
  • Adobe Flash Pro CS5 — $189
  • Adobe Lightroom 3 — $99

I am not sure if you are aware, but we do buy back used Macs.  If you know of anyone/students/teachers/school, who would like to upgrade their computers and trade-in or get rid of their older Macs, we can possibly offer to purchase these used Macs from them.

DEAL: Buy a Mac, Get a Free iPod touch (with caveats)

Attention students: if you are considering buying a Mac this summer, you are probably eligible to get a free 8GB iPod touch. You should know, however, that as nice a deal as this is, Apple usually uses this time to clear out the old stock of iPods before they release the new models in September. So if you are going to buy a laptop anyway, go for it, but don’t be surprised when the new iPods have cameras and the buyer’s remorse hits.

Also, there is a strong possibility that updated or refreshed laptops will be coming in June, so if you can, wait a little longer, at least till July before you make your big purchase.

All the info on the deal can be found here.

If you have any questions about which Mac to purchase, you know you can always contact your friendly program assistant Nick.

DEAL: Discount Art & School Supplies

A heads up on some great deals from one of our esteemed alumni:

The retail division of the company I work for has really good prices on art/school supplies. They have sketching pencils, paints, pastels, paper, etc etc. They purchase it from bankrupt stores and resell it at really reduced rates.

If any students (or teachers) are interested, it’s all located at:

1311 United Blvd.
Coquitlam, BC

Tel. 604-516-6688

Hours: Mon-Sat 9:30am-5pm, Sun 12pm-5pm

DEAL: P22 Font Discounts for Students

If you want some great fonts at an honest price, check out the 20% off for students at P22 Type Foundry.

Going back to school is hard enough as students and teachers are all too aware of the rising costs of course materials. Here at P22, we have always tried to make it a little easier with our educational pricing. In addition to student discounting, the P22 Educational Discount Program offers teachers a great way to incorporate high quality, professional fonts into their lessons and help students build their type library, all at a great price!

DEAL: Free Adobe Training Courses Online

Some of us at Kwantlen are currently taking these free 10-week courses in Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and Flash from a company in Seattle called Creative Techs. They’re all separate, you can jump in whenever you want, they last for just over an hour with time for questions, and you watch it all on your computer absolutely free. A great chance to learn something, update your skills or just pick up some great hints and tricks.

My friends at CreativeTechs are offering free 10-week training courses on Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and Flash.

You can view the schedule and sign up here. The courses are extremely popular, so if you’re interested, you should sign-up now. I’ve managed to catch a few of them in the past and found them quite informative!

DEAL: Buy a Mac, Get a Free iPod

It’s that time of year again when Apple offers you a free iPod when you buy a new Mac. If any of you are considering getting a computer for the new year, and would like an iPod touch as well, this might be the best time to do it. However, Apple will most likely release fancy new iPods in Septemeber, so if you are prone to buyer’s remorse, keep that in mind before making your purchase…

Choose your Mac.
If you’re a college student or a faculty or staff member at any grade level and you buy a new Mac through September 8, you can get a free iPod touch.* No wonder they call these the best years of your life.

MacBook From $1,099.00 – Students save up to $50

MacBook Pro From $2,049.00 – Students save up to $100

MacBook Air From $1,894.00 – Students save up to $105

iMac From $1,349.00 – Students save up to $50

Get your free iPod touch.
With iPod touch, you can email your classmates, download hundreds of educational apps, and enjoy thousands of podcasts, lectures, and videos from iTunes U. Of course, you can also play games, surf the web, watch movies, and get directions to the pizza place.

DEAL: Buy a Mac, Get a Free iPod

This is a great deal if you need a Mac and are happy with the current iPods, but just so you know, new iPods are expected on September 9th and they won’t be eligible for this deal (and they’ll probably be cool).

If you’re a student, teacher, or staff member and you buy a Mac with your education discount between June 3 and September 15, 2008, you can get a free iPod touch or iPod nano after rebate.
